Seniors Helping Seniors has happily continued to support our elderly and its carers throughout the lockdown whilst following the developing Government guidelines.
Lets find a way…. Our carers have become very creative, one lady has been visiting her local hairdresser weekly for 40 years, to fill the void her carer washed and styled her hair then painted her nails. A bit of ingenuity (and appropriate PPE!) left our elderly customer feeling so much better about herself.
EXERCISE TO KEEP ACTIVE
When visits to garden centres and cafes became off limits we persuaded our elderly customers to exercise by walking around their gardens, up and down the corridors outside their flats and maybe for walks around the block – anything to keep them active and get them outside for fresh air.
We can be there if you can’t
For one elderly couple our small team of carers has seen them through the past 14 long weeks of confinement. The couples two daughters were unable to visit at all for the whole duration. Their daughter wrote “Thank you so much to you and the team for all you are doing to support Mum and Dad, we all hugely appreciate it.” We expanded our roles there to cover all those who could no longer visit by providing companionship, shopping, cooking, cleaning and dog walking!
Manager Rachel Nicolaou (pictured helping Edwin in the garden), passes on some feedback from another carer “My elderly client is enjoying getting outdoors more. We take a cup of coffee from home and find a lovely bench to enjoy the views at Newlands Corner. Her son commented that he has seen a marked difference in his Mum.” Desperate times call for……lateral thinking!
